WiFi Solutions for Festivals

Festivals are some of the most demanding connectivity environments in the event industry. Wide footprints, thousands of simultaneous users, multiple vendor and production networks, and in most cases no fixed internet infrastructure whatsoever. Made By WiFi provides fully managed WiFi and internet solutions for festivals across New York and New Jersey, deploying networks built for the scale, the environment, and the zero-margin-for-error standard that a live festival demands. For festival organisers outside the NY/NJ area, our 5G Hotspot Kits are available nationwide, though as with all our rental products, we always assess whether they are the right fit for the specific event before anything ships.

Why festivals are different

Why Festival Connectivity Is in a Category of Its Own

Festivals are not just large events, they are a specific type of challenge that combines scale, environment, and infrastructure complexity in ways that most other events do not. Here is why connectivity at a festival is in a category of its own.

Thousands of Devices Simultaneously

A festival with 10,000 attendees means tens of thousands of devices, smartphones, tablets, wearables, payment terminals, and production equipment, all attempting to connect at the same time, in the same space. Cellular networks in the area will be overwhelmed immediately. The only reliable connectivity solution is dedicated wireless infrastructure designed specifically for that device density, with enough access points, bandwidth, and capacity planning to serve the full crowd without degradation.

Mass Simultaneous Payments

Cashless festivals are now standard, and every vendor, food stall, bar, and merchandise stand depends on reliable connectivity for payment processing. Thousands of transactions happening simultaneously across a large site require a network that treats POS connectivity as mission-critical, because it is. A vendor that cannot process payments loses revenue for every minute the connection is down, and that cost lands directly on the festival operator.

Live Streaming and Social Sharing at Scale

At a major festival, hundreds or thousands of attendees are uploading content simultaneously, videos, photos, social media posts, live streams. This upload demand creates a bandwidth load that most networks are not designed for. Add dedicated production live streams and media team uploads on top, and the demand becomes extreme. A festival network needs to be sized and configured for this peak simultaneous upload load, not just for typical browsing and streaming.

No Fixed Infrastructure

Most festival sites, parks, fields, outdoor venues, and temporary event spaces, have no fixed broadband or fiber infrastructure. The internet connection itself has to be brought in, whether via Starlink satellite, coordinated fiber drops, or bonded cellular. Planning for this is not optional, it is the first design decision that shapes everything else about the festival network.

Multiple Independent Networks Running Simultaneously

A festival is not one network, it is many. Production teams, media, sponsors, vendors, staff, and general attendees all have different connectivity requirements and need to be kept separate from each other. A sponsor activation running a live interactive experience cannot share bandwidth with general guest WiFi. A production team streaming to broadcast cannot compete with vendor POS traffic. Designing these networks as independent segments within the same infrastructure is one of the most technically demanding aspects of festival connectivity.

How we work

What We Deliver and How We Work

Made By WiFi provides fully managed event WiFi for festivals across New York and New Jersey. The process below covers how we approach every festival deployment, from the initial planning conversation through to the final breakdown.

BEFORE

Before the Festival

The process starts well before the festival opens. We begin with a detailed conversation about the site, the expected attendance, the production setup, the vendor and sponsor footprint, and the specific connectivity requirements of each user group. For festival sites, a site visit is essential wherever possible, the physical characteristics of an open-air location, the power infrastructure available, the layout of stages and vendor areas, and the presence of any structures that affect signal propagation all need to be assessed in person before the network can be designed. From the site assessment, we design the full network: internet connection planning including Starlink or fixed fiber where available, access point placement across the site, separate network segments for each user group, and redundancy planning so the festival keeps running if any single element encounters an issue.

DURING

During the Festival

Our team arrives ahead of the festival to deploy, configure, and test the full network infrastructure before the first attendee arrives. Outdoor-rated equipment is positioned and secured, Starlink is set up and integrated, all network segments are verified, and performance is tested under simulated load. For the full duration of the festival, our team is on-site monitoring the network in real time. If something needs attention, a coverage gap in a new vendor area, a spike in demand from an unexpected crowd concentration, or any technical issue, we respond immediately. Producers and operations managers have direct access to our team throughout.

AFTER

After the Festival

Once the festival closes, our team handles the full breakdown and collection of all equipment. A performance report covering network metrics, bandwidth consumption, peak usage periods, and any incidents during the event is provided. This data supports planning for future editions of the festival and gives sponsors and venue partners evidence of the network's performance.

No room for error

Festivals Have No Room for Error

Festivals are live events. When something goes wrong with the connectivity, there is no pause button and no second chance to fix it before the crowd notices. A vendor that cannot process payments, a live stream that drops mid-performance, or a production team that loses their network connection during a critical moment, these are not recoverable in the moment. The only way to avoid them is to get it right before the festival opens.

This is one of the principles that defines how Made By WiFi approaches every event deployment. We were built in the event industry, where the standard has always been to get it right the first time, because there is no other time. We plan for peak load before the festival, verify coverage across the full site before gates open, build redundancy into the network so a single failure does not take the whole system down, and stay on-site throughout so any issue is identified and resolved before it reaches attendees, vendors, or production.

That approach is not specific to festivals, it runs through everything we do.

Internet options

Temporary Internet Solutions for Festivals

Where festival sites have fixed broadband or fiber available, Made By WiFi coordinates a dedicated connection. For the majority of festival sites, where no fixed infrastructure exists, we bring the internet to the site. Here are the two rental options we offer, and when each is the right choice.

Starlink

New York & New Jersey Deployed & managed by our team

For festival sites without fixed internet infrastructure, Starlink is the strongest solution available. By connecting directly to low-earth orbit satellites rather than relying on cellular towers, Starlink bypasses the congestion problem that makes 4G and 5G unreliable at high-density outdoor events. Made By WiFi deploys and manages Starlink for festivals across New York and New Jersey, handling terminal placement, integration with the festival network, and real-time monitoring throughout. A single terminal supports significant bandwidth, and for larger festivals we can combine multiple terminals for increased throughput. Starlink deployments require our team to be physically present and are available in our local area only.

5G Hotspot Kits

Ships nationwide Self-install

5G Hotspot Kits provide portable mobile internet that ships directly to any location in the United States. For festival organisers outside New York and New Jersey, this is the connectivity option that can reach you wherever the festival takes place. That said, 5G Hotspot Kits are not always the right solution for a festival, particularly for large-scale events with high device density, where cellular congestion is one of the core problems the network needs to solve. Before we ship a kit, we always assess whether it is genuinely the right solution for your specific event. If it is, it will be with you quickly and our team will be available remotely to support you throughout. If it is not, we will tell you that honestly and advise on a better alternative.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About WiFi for Festivals

Common questions from festival producers and event managers planning connectivity for their next outdoor event.

Why can't a festival rely on cellular networks for connectivity?

Cellular networks become overwhelmed quickly when thousands of devices are concentrated in a small area. At a festival, every attendee, vendor, and production team member is trying to connect simultaneously, and the nearest cell towers simply cannot handle that volume. The result is slow or non-functional mobile data for everyone at the site. Dedicated wireless infrastructure that does not depend on the cellular network is the only reliable solution for a festival of any significant size.

How do you provide internet at a festival site with no fixed infrastructure?

For festival sites without fixed broadband or fiber, Made By WiFi deploys Starlink satellite internet as the primary connection. Starlink connects directly to low-earth orbit satellites and bypasses cellular infrastructure entirely, making it reliable even in remote locations and at high-density events where cellular is congested. For smaller activations or as a backup, 5G Hotspot Kits are also available.

How many access points does a festival need?

It depends on the size of the site, the expected attendance, and the layout of the event. A festival with multiple stages, a large vendor area, and thousands of attendees will need significantly more access points than a smaller community event. Made By WiFi conducts a site assessment before every festival deployment and designs the access point placement specifically for the site, ensuring coverage across the full footprint including vendor areas, production zones, and high-density audience areas.

Can you provide separate networks for vendors, production, and attendees?

Yes. Separate network segments for each user group are standard for every festival deployment. General attendee WiFi, vendor POS networks, production and media networks, sponsor activations, and staff communications are all kept on isolated segments, ensuring that bandwidth-intensive production applications do not affect general guest connectivity and that critical operational systems are protected from general traffic.

Do you provide WiFi for festivals outside New York and New Jersey?

Fully managed festival WiFi deployments are available in New York and New Jersey, where our team can be physically present. For festivals outside the area, our 5G Hotspot Kits are available nationwide, though we always assess whether they are the right solution for the specific event before shipping. Large-scale festivals with high device density may require a different approach, and we will advise honestly on what makes sense for your situation.

How early should festival WiFi be booked?

As early as possible. Festival deployments involve site assessments, network design, ISP or Starlink coordination, and equipment logistics that all require lead time. For large festivals, booking several months in advance is advisable. Get in touch with your event details and we will advise on timing.

Can Starlink support a large festival audience?

A single Starlink terminal can deliver significant bandwidth, but for very large festivals with thousands of simultaneous users, multiple terminals combined for increased throughput provide a more robust solution. Made By WiFi assesses the expected bandwidth demand for each festival deployment and recommends the right configuration of Starlink terminals and access points to serve the full audience.

How much does festival WiFi cost?

Pricing depends on the size of the festival footprint, the expected attendance, the number of separate networks required, the internet connection needed, the duration of the event, and whether the site has any fixed infrastructure. Get in touch with your festival details and we will provide a tailored quote.
